Festival Music de Chambre Montreal

Presents: Singing Strings!

This special concert is part of the Festival’s Israel Connection. The evening pays tribute to Alexander Brott (1915 – 2005), Canadian composer, conductor, violinist and pedagogue. The Ariel Quartet, a brilliant young ensemble from Israel, performs as soloists in Alexander Brott’s Ritual (1942). They join a string ensemble which includes violinist Jonathan Crow, cellist Denis Brott, bassist Ali Yazdanfar and winners of instruments from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank to perform Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony in C minor (arr. Barshai), dedicated to victims of war and fascism, and Schubert’s exquisite Quartet “Death and the Maiden” (arr. Mahler)
